Google said on Tuesday that it is opening its shopping platform to make it free for sellers to list their products on the company’s search engine. Previously, search results for the shopping section of the site came from advertisers bidding on specific search terms, such as workout gear or rice cookers.
Now, sellers will be able to list products on the shopping tab of search engines, even if they are not advertisers. A Google spokesman said the results page would list mostly free products, although paid product ads would be shown above and below the page.
The change, which applies in the week of nesting, comes as a physical retail hit, while people lock up in their homes to combat the coronovirus epidemic. As shops and other businesses have closed their doors, online shopping has come to the forefront to help people buy essential supplies.
Google also stated in a blog post that merchants are partnering with PayPal to link their accounts to Google, to speed up the onboarding process, including Bill Ready, president of commerce at Google and former PayPal COO, stated in a blog post.

Google has slammed in the past for its shopping efforts. It didn’t help that Google was fined $ 1.7 billion from the European Union for what the commission called “abusive” advertising practices, especially when it came to Google’s shopping product.
